December 6, 2019: Emerging Capital Partners (ECP) won Pan-African fund manager of the year during the SuperReturn Africa GP award ceremony held in Cape Town, South Africa, on December 3, 2019.

With 500+ attendees and 120+ LPs, SuperReturn Africa is one of the largest and most prestigious African private equity events. ECP is pleased to be recognized by the esteemed institution for its strategy and efforts to foster transformative, sustainable growth in Africa’s economies.

One of the longest-established and most experienced Pan-African private equity fund managers, ECP focuses on opportunities that address basic and emerging consumer needs and vital business requirements. Since 2000, ECP has raised $3.2 billion to invest in African businesses across the continent. ECP has made 66 investments in four sectors (infrastructure and logistics, financial services, telecommunications and ICT, and consumer goods) and has completed nearly 50 exits. ECP credits its on-the-ground presence, with offices in South Africa, Kenya, and Côte d’Ivoire, as an invaluable component of its ability to deploy capital across the continent and to support investees in their expansion efforts.

The award follows a series of exciting announcements for ECP, beginning with the announcement of the final close of its fourth Pan-African fund, ECP Africa Fund IV, in late 2018, followed by a majority investment in Artcaffé, a restaurant and coffeehouse chain in Nairobi, Kenya. ECP investee Oragroup also listed on the BRVM and became the largest listing since the establishment of the BRVM in 1998. In 2019, ECP announced an investment in IATF, a southern Africa-based financial technology platform operator that strives to facilitate cross-border transportation. Finally, in late 2019, ECP announced a strategic partnership with three DFIs to support the growth and development of higher education institutions in Africa through the investment vehicle Africa Edu Holding (AEH).

Emerging Capital Partners is proud to receive this honor and recognizes its collaborators who strive day-to-day to materialize ECP’s vision and strategy to contribute to sustainable development on the continent.
