The Africa investor Investment & Business Leaders Awards are the most respected international awards to recognize exceptional business practices, economic achievements and investments across Africa. The Africa investor Awards are unique pan-African investment awards that recognize and reward the achievements of the private sector across wide-ranging sectors and disciplines. Each year, the Ai Awards attracts international market leaders and business leaders from across the continent and salutes their achievements.

At a time when the global economy continues to face formidable challenges amid vigorous market changes, the Africa investor Investment and Business Leaders Awards honors the people who have provided dynamic leadership and a profitable long-term vision for the companies they lead. The Awards are designed to shed light on Africa's many investment success stories and recognizes those Business Leaders that have the knowledge and strength to grow their investment portfolios and who are making a difference through leadership and innovation in their industry sectors.

The Awards positively shed light on Africa's many untold investment success stories and recognize those business leaders that have shown commitment to responsibly grow shareholder value, whilst at the same time make a difference through leadership and innovation in their industry Africa needs more examples of good governance and strong visionary leadership, and this year's awards placed emphasis on recognizing Africa's business leaders navigating their organizations and the continent through the financial crisis. The Awards ceremony was attended by over 400 international financiers and African business leaders at a ceremony held in association with UNEP FI and Standard Chartered Bank.

This year, two of ECP's portfolio companies' leaders were honored. Phuthumas Nhleko, CEO of the MTN Group was given the  Ai Award for Africa's Innovation Leader of the Year. Wale Tinubu, CEO of Oando Plc. was given the Ai Award for Up & Coming Future Leader of the Year. In addition to the winners, ECP's portfolio companies were nominated for several awards. The MTN Group and Blue Financial Services were nominated for Best Initiative in Support of SME's & the Millennium Development Goals. Ecobank was nominated for the Bank of the Year. Arnold Ekpe, CEO of Ecobank was nominated for two awards Africa's Innovation Leader of the Year and Africa Business Leader of the Year; Phuthumas Nhleko, CEO of the MTN Group was also nominated as Africa Business Leader of the Year.
